Shooter will shoot its last shot.
USA has canceled the Ryan Phillippe-led action series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Sept. 13 Season 3 finale will also serve as the series finale.
Shooter — about a guy who shoots a lot of things — had a lot of difficulties throughout its run. Its series premiere was delayed twice for sensitivity reasons after mass shootings in summer 2016, and Season 2 was cut short after Phillippe broke his leg in an accident unrelated to the show. Season 3 was expanded from 10 to 13 episodes as a result. Season 3 premiered in June and is USA’s lowest-rated show in the 18-49 demographic; it was USA’s second-highest rated show in Season 1.
The series is based on a 2007 movie of the same name and tells the story of Marine sniper Bob Lee Swagger (Phillippe), who comes out of retirement to help thwart a plot to assassinate the president. Omar Epps and Gerald McRaney also star.
The cancellation comes not long after USA canceled sci-fi drama Colony after three seasons. Its current roster includes The Sinner, Mr. Robot and Queen of the South.
Shooter airs Thursdays at 10/9c on USA.
