Sophia Bush Books First Lead Role Since Leaving Chicago P.D.

Will Sophia Bush be the next Sydney Bristow? Her latest gig seems to indicate so!

Deadline reports that Bush has booked her first lead role since she left Chicago P.D., and it’s a juicy one. Her new series, titled Surveillance, is described as a “complex and timely spy thriller,” and Bush will star as the charming head of communications for the National Security Agency. The problem, of course, is that her loyalty to her country and its secrets is complicated by a need to protect secrets of her own. This is TV, after all.

The spy thriller is definitely a change for Bush, but considering the scorched Earth surrounding her departure from Chicago P.D., it’s probably a nice change for the actress. “For me, it felt like I was trapped in a burning building,” Bush told Refinery 29 of her final months spent on the NBC Series. “I was just so unhappy, and it was my dream job, and I was miserable and I had to go.”

When speaking about her departure from the show (and her subsequent, exclusive deal with 20th Century Fox), Bush explained that moving forward she wanted to focus on strong female storylines with vital female voices driving them. Given that Surveillance has built its story around a complicated female lead and has already tapped Patricia Riggen to direct the pilot, this series seems to be a pretty good start point for that goal.
