Desperate search and rescue efforts were underway on Monday in the wake of a devastating 7.5-magnitude earthquake that struck the Indonesian island of Sulawesi and unleashed a 20-foot tsunami.

More than 800 people have died, and thousands more are feared dead from the twin natural disasters on Friday. Tens of thousands of people have been left homeless and several areas remain cut off from any assistance. Fuel, electricity and food were in short supply.

Thousands of buildings in the city of Palu were destroyed, including several mosques, the eight-story Roa Roa Hotel and a shopping mall. The tsunami also pounded the nearby fishing community of Donggala.

Officials in Palu, where bodies covered in tarps lined the streets, said they were digging a mass grave for at least 300 of the dead.

Here are images from the aftermath of the quake and tsunami.
