The Best New Shows to Stream April 19, 2019 – Homecoming, Someone Great, and Ramy

The sun might be shining but nothing’s brighter than this week’s slate of TV premieres. Snuggle up this weekend with the highly anticipated premiere of Netflix’s new Beyoncé documentary Homecoming; a new coming-of-age story about losing your first love called Someone Great; and Ramy, a new autobiographical comedy from Ramy Youssef.

1. Homecoming

Homecoming is a new Netflix concert film that takes the Beyhive behind the scenes of Beyoncé‘s unforgettable 2018 Coachella performance. There’s literally nothing more that needs to be said since we’re talking about the greatest performer of our lifetime giving us the performance of her lifetime. It’s guaranteed to take us all to church, and that church is located in an HBCU. If that’s not enough to get you streaming, maybe this review will.

2. Someone Great

Written, produced, and directed by the Jenn Kaytin Robinson of Sweet/Vicious fame, Netflix’s new film Someone Great is a coming-of-age story that follows three late-twentysomethings as one braces to leave NYC. Starring Gina Rodriguez, DeWanda Wise, and Brittany Snow, the movie is filled with joyful scenes that immediately make you want to call your best friends as well as heartbreaking ones that deal with the pain of growing apart but still loving one another. This is a lovely Saturday afternoon watch, and you should definitely pop the rosé before you sit down and watch.

3. Ramy

Joining forces with Hulu, Ramy Youssef brings us the self-titled Ramy this weekend. An autobiographical work, the comedy is low-key revolutionary and filled with high-key optimism. Ramy examines what it looks like to be a twentysomething Muslim-American who dates and hooks up like any other young adult but still wants and struggles to have relationship with god. Subtle, sweet, and savvy, Ramy is definitely worth a Sunday binge.
