The Internet Combined It’s Pennywise the Clown with the Cheers Intro

The internet is a strange and mysterious place, and you never quite know what pieces of pop culture might be smashed together out of pure boredom to make a random meme that just so happens to work.

The latest is this, a re-imagining of the intro to the iconic sitcom Cheers and Pennywise the Clown from Stephen King’s It. Yes, you read that right. In this case, those two wildly different pieces of entertainment do manage to fit together somehow.

Basically, a writer named Jesse McLaren had some downtime during a vacation and came up with the completely off the wall idea to insert images of It‘s child-killing clown into all the old-timey frames from Cheers‘ intro artwork just for the heck of it, and the result is one extraordinarily creepy rendition of an otherwise cozy little show crawl.

Pennywise is certainly someone we wouldn’t want to know our names.

Most of the shots of Pennywise seem to stem from Andy Muschietti’s modern adaptation of It and its forthcoming sequel, It: Chapter Two. Considering the vintage appeal of Cheers‘ intro artwork, the incorporation of Pennywise pictures actually make a great deal of sense, since his spooky visage also appears in a lot of old pictures meant to showcase just how long the creature has been terrorizing the town of Derry, Maine in the story.

Good luck ever seeing the show’s opener the same way after this, everyone.

Cheers is available for streaming on Netflix, Hulu, CBS All Access, and Amazon Prime, while It (2017) is currently available for streaming at Cinemax. It: Chapter Two hits theaters on September 6.
