Genoa City will lose a very familiar face this fall.

Eileen Davidson, who has played Ashley Abbott on-and-off on The Young and the Restless since 1982, announced on Twitter Tuesday that she will officially be exiting the series this fall.

“Yes I am leaving my second home @YandR_CBS in September,” Davidson wrote. “I’ve been so blessed to be able to play Ashley Abbott and work with the amazing people on the show and have nothing but gratitude and love for all!!! Time for a little more control over my day to day!”

For those you who are heartbroken over losing Ashley Abbott for good, don’t panic just yet. This is not the first time Davidson has left the show. She departed The Young and the Restless from 1988-1999, during which time Brenda Epperson and Shari Shattuck took over the role. There has been no announcement yet about whether she will be replaced in a similar fashion this time around, but it’s not out of the ordinary for a daytime soap to recast major roles several times.

In addition to Young and the Restless, Davidson is also known for starring on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for three seasons. During her tenure on the Bravo reality show, Davidson often highlighted her soap opera career, even inviting co-star Erika Jayne to appear alongside her on Y&R.

The Young and the Restless airs weekdays at 12:30/11:30c on CBS.
