One of the things that Randall Pearson (Sterling K. Brown) is the most proud of on This Is Us is paying for his expensive Audi with cash. Well, his prize possession was left battered into an unrecognizable mess at the end of Season 2 when his foster daughter Deja (Lyric Ross) took a baseball bat to the fancy car.

“I think Season 3 should open up with [Deja’s] time out just ending from five months. It’s a big deal,” Susan Kelechi Watson, who plays Randall’s wife Beth, teased to TV Guide at a recent FYC event. “It is something that is so new for them so they have to figure out how to do this and how to do it sensitively.”

Although Beth and Randall want to be empathetic to the fact that Deja was just abandoned by her mom, that doesn’t mean that they’re going to let this meltdown slide. And the repercussions of Deja’s freakout are going to have a lasting effect on their family heading into Season 3.

“You want to take care of [Deja], but also you’re really angry,” Watson said. “People get angry at kids all the time. The effect that it’s going to have on Randall and Beth is really important.”
