Three New Orleans Pelicans players have tested positive for the coronavirus, executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin told reporters Tuesday.

Griffin, citing HIPAA, did not say which players tested positive but did say those players are in isolation. He added the three tests took place when players returned to the facility last week.

Last week, the NBA announced 16 players tested positive from the 22 teams set to play in Orlando. Sources told ESPN the three Pelicans players were among those positive tests.

Griffin, a cancer survivor, said he will join the team in Orlando but that the status of whether coach Alvin Gentry, who is 65, will be there “is to be determined.”

However, he said he has no reason to believe any member of the Pelicans’ organization won’t be able to go to Orlando.

The Pelicans sit 3.5 games back of the eighth-seeded Memphis Grizzlies. Their season is set to restart on July 30 against the Utah Jazz.
