You don’t have to wait to catch the first episode of Prodigal Son. On Friday, Fox dropped the pilot for the forthcoming series starring The Walking Dead‘s Tom Payne and Good Omens‘ Michael Sheen on YouTube a week before it officially premieres on the network. You can watch it now, here.
Payne revealed the surprise drop in a Twitter video, adding that the episode will be available until the end of the weekend.

Payne stars as Malcolm Bright, a criminal psychologist with a genius understanding of serial killer pathology because of his father, Dr. Martin Whitly (Sheen), who notoriously slaughtered at least 23 people in the ’90s. Bright uses his brilliant mind to help the NYPD solve gruesome crimes, though his twisted way of carrying out justice draw parallels to his sociopathic father. It’s a dark but humorous take on procedurals and feels reminiscent of another Fox property–House, M.D. starring Hugh Laurie.
“In a way, with House, M.D., it was about diagnosing a sickness. This show is about diagnosing a psychology,” producer Chris Fedak told reporters during the Television Critics Association summer press tour. “This is very much Sherlock Freud. Essentially trying to figure out why does the mind work this way? Why would a person do this? So we kind of come at it from that perspective.”
Prodigal Son officially premieres Monday, Sept. 23 at 9/8c on Fox.
