It may have taken five seasons but Charles (Peter Hermann) finally learned the truth about Liza (Sutton Foster) on Younger. However, the bombshell reveal came in the worst way possible — from someone other than Liza.

The shocking premiere saw disgraced author Edward L.L. Moore (Richard Masur), whose books were shelved amid allegations of sexual misconduct, out Liza to Charles after digging up dirt to discredit her claims that he was inappropriate with her. Charles didn’t believe Moore at first –who would, honestly — until the disgruntled writer served up a manila envelope full of receipts including her birth certificate and marriage license. It’s a mind-blowing moment that, according to Peter Hermann, will force Charles to revaluate his entire relationship with Liza.

“The first thing that goes through [his mind] is a lot of fierce calculus in his head. And then a lot of re-editing and rethinking of every interaction they’ve had,” he told TV Guide. “It fundamentally changes the way that he sees her. Frankly, he doesn’t know how to see her.”

Younger Will Get Another Season Older

After all, Liza has been lying to Charles from the start so it’s going to take some time for him to not only wrap his head around the situation but also decide whether or not he still wants to be with her. Plus, Liza has no idea that he knows the truth so that will make things even more complicated between them.

“Liza and Charles have to figure out how to find their way back to each other but it takes time. I think it’s a real blow and he feels really betrayed. There’s a lot they’re gonna have to overcome to find each other,” Foster said.

While they have quite a bit to work out, fans shouldn’t give up on them just yet. With Josh (Nico Tortorella) out of the picture romantically, it’s time for Liza and Charles to finally have their moment in the sun. “I would say that this is the season of Liza and Charles,” said Foster.

That’s music to my ears.

Younger continues Tuesdays at 10/9c on TVLand.
