Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. just reintroduced two characters we thought were long gone!
In the post-episode scene of the show’s most recent episode, we saw a never-before-seen flashback to the events of Season 1.
Remember back when S.H.I.E.L.D. turned out to be totally infiltrated by Hydra agents, and John Garret (Bill Paxton) and Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) stole that huge case of Gravitonium from The Fridge? If so, you’ll also remember that Raina (Ruth Negga) and Ian Quinn (David Conrad) disappeared with that Gravitonium at the end of Season 1. The Gravitonium recently made its way back into the Season 5 plot, but it’s not the only thing that’s returned.
The flashback in question showed the moments directly following Raina and Quinn’s escape with the Gravitonium four years ago, as they discussed their plans for the unstable element. Quinn admitted he was never really on board with Hydra’s whole world domination plot, he only ever wanted the Gravitonium. Raina, ever the trickster, corrected him, saying the Gravitonium actually wanted him.

She opened the case containing the element, and like it was the plan all along, the Gravitonium made a creepy beeline for Quinn and sucked him right up!
Well… at least we know who Creel (Brian Patrick Wade) might have been hearing in his head thanks to his little Gravitonium test?
During their escape, Creel told Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Talbot (Adrian Pasdar) he could hear arguing voices that no one else could. These hallucinatory symptoms were obviously part of his attempt to absorb the properties of the Gravitonium, like he does with all other elements, but now we’re wondering if he didn’t absorb a something so much as a someone. Could it be possible that the Gravitonium didn’t kill Quinn (and whoever else it may have sucked up along the way), but simply stored his consciousness somehow? Could Quinn’s voice be one of the arguing voices in Creel’s head? If so, who else is in there?
