The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a carjacking suspect who escaped a police chase Saturday before crashing the vehicle and running away.
At about 9:40 p.m., a man stepped out of his car while it was running near Interstate 25 and Lincoln Avenue in Englewood, Sheriff spokesman Sgt. Jeff Miller said. Another man got into the car and started to drive away. The car owner tried to stop the carjacking but the man hit him and kept going.
The car owner was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A deputy spotted the car and started a pursuit, Miller said. The chase was short and the driver escaped the deputy.
Later in the night, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office notified Douglas County that they found the stolen car, which had crashed at South Quebec Street and East Peakview Avenue in Centennial. Miller said the car thief ran away from the scene.
The sheriff’s office does not have a detailed description of the suspect.
