Luke Cage star Mike Colter is officially leaving the Marvel world behind to take on demons at CBS. TV Guide has learned Colter will star in Evil, a new drama from The Good Wife creators Robert and Michelle King that “examines science vs. religion and the origins of evil.”

Katja Herbers (Manhattan, The Leftovers) centers the story as a forensic psychologist who teams up with a priest-in-training to investigate the Church’s record of alleged miracles, demon possessions, and supernatural phenomena.

CBS’ 2019-2020 Fall TV Lineup: What You Need to Know

This is Colter’s first series regular role since playing the titular role in Marvel’s Luke Cage, which was canceled at Netflix as Marvel shifted its television attention to the new Disney streaming service Disney+. Even though the actor was holding out hope for Cage to also make the jump to Disney+ (or find another network home) as late as January, this move makes it all the more unlikely that Harlem’s bulletproof hero will be returning. However, during the Marvel hiatus, Colter did make time to guest-star on a couple episodes of The Good Fight — the CBS All Access spin-off of The Good Wife, also from the Kings.

The Evil pick-up comes just days after the Kings threatened to quit The Good Fight over CBS All Access censoring a 90-second animated bit about (ironically) Chinese censorship.

Additionally, CBS also picked up the FBI spin-off FBI: Most Wanted and the courtroom drama All Rise, as well as comedies Bob Hearts Abishola from executive producer Chuck Lorre; Broke, which stars Jaime Camil (Jane the Virgin) and Pauley Perrette (NCIS); Carol’s Second Act starring Patricia Heaton; and The Unicorn starring Walton Goggins.

(Disclosure: TV Guide is owned by CBS Interactive, a division of CBS Corporation)
