Renée Zellweger is ready to make someone an offer they can’t refuse.
Netflix has released the first trailer for its new original series What/If, and it features the Academy Award winner introducing her clients to some kind of Indecent Proposal-meets-Westworld scenario where “the players are all arranged” and “anything or anyone [can] be yours for the taking.”
The 10-episode first season of What/If, which is set to tackle a different morality tale each season, will be devoted to the story of a pair of San Francisco newlyweds who become wrapped up in Zellweger’s character’s dubious scheme, which will earn them some much-needed cash but cause the couple to do “unacceptable things.”
It’s not clear what sort of “dangerous game” is being played here, but the teaser does show us that the social gatherings are going to be elegant and full of people with wandering eyes. Since this new show is being billed as a “neo-noir social thriller,” we can probably count on this eerie but sexy atmosphere to loom large over the show. There are still a lot of question marks surrounding What/If so far, which is probably the point.
Jane Levy, Blake Jenner, and Daniella Pineda also star.
What/If arrives on Netflix on May 24.
