As a thank you to veterans and military personnel, a number of restaurants are offering special discounts and freebies on Veterans Day — some even for the entire weekend. Not to be confused with Memorial Day, Veteran’s day is the national holiday honoring all of the brave men and women who have served in the military. According the Library of Congress, the first Veteran’s Day was celebrated November 11, 1919, exactly one year to the day from when the Allies and the Germans ended World War I with a ceasefire agreement. Though it wasn’t until after World War II that it was renamed Veteran’s Day, and it wasn’t until the late ’70s that the date was officially settled on November 11th.

There are a number of ways to thank a Veteran for their service (and here are some ideas!), so we love that these restaurants are doing their part to say thank you too. Before heading out the door, make sure you have a military I.D. or proof of service with you (a uniform will do!). While most locations will be participating in the celebration, it’s best to call your local chain to double-check that the deal applies before you plan to visit.
